Aspiring designers and start-up founders gathered on 30th March 2026 for the “Thinking of Launching a Fashion Brand?” masterclass, an industry-led session designed to provide practical guidance on building a successful label.
Hosted by Fashion-Enter Ltd and supported by the Apparel and Textile Manufacturers Federation (ATMF), the event took place at the Fashion Hub, Phoenix House in Leicester. It brought together creatives eager to understand the realities of entering the fashion industry.
A Real-World Approach to Brand Building
The session was led by Caroline Trend, who delivered an honest, end-to-end overview of the brand development journey—from initial concept through to sourcing, sampling, and manufacturing.
What set the masterclass apart was its grounded and realistic approach. Rather than presenting fashion as a purely creative pursuit, attendees were guided through the operational and strategic challenges involved in launching a brand.
Building Strong Foundations
A key focus of the session was the importance of early-stage research. Caroline highlighted the need for founders to:
- Understand their target customer
- Define a clear unique selling point
- Position their brand effectively in a competitive market
This stage is often overlooked by new designers, yet it plays a critical role in long-term success.
Demystifying Design and Production
The masterclass also provided valuable insight into the design and development process. Attendees were introduced to essential industry tools such as tech packs, gaining a clearer understanding of how these documents enable effective communication with manufacturers.
Discussions around fabric sourcing and production logistics helped break down complex processes, making them more accessible to those at the start of their journey.
Challenging Common Misconceptions
One of the most impactful elements of the session was its transparency. Caroline addressed common misconceptions about launching a fashion brand, offering a realistic perspective on the challenges involved and helping attendees avoid typical pitfalls.
Participant feedback reflected the value of this approach, with one attendee commenting:
“Very useful information about trend spotting, trade shows, what’s needed when working with manufacturers and the processes. Great insights and food for thought.”
Supporting Leicester’s Emerging Talent
Overall, the masterclass provided a strong foundation for anyone considering starting a fashion business. By combining inspiration with practical knowledge, it equipped attendees with the confidence to take their next steps—or reassess their plans with greater clarity.
With more industry-led sessions planned and events such as Leicester Made and Regions approaching in April, initiatives like this continue to strengthen Leicester’s reputation as a supportive hub for emerging fashion talent.
