The UK garment and textile manufacturing sector received strong support following a meeting held on Friday 27 February between representatives of the Apparel & Textile Manufacturers Federation and leading Members of Parliament.
The meeting included Liz Kendall, Member of Parliament for Leicester West, and David Lammy, Member of Parliament for Tottenham. Both MPs expressed their strong backing for the UK’s garment and textile manufacturing industry and recognised the importance of supporting domestic production.
Representatives from the Apparel & Textile Manufacturers Federation and Fashion-Enter Ltd / FashionCapital attended the meeting and welcomed the constructive discussions around the future of UK manufacturing.
The meeting highlighted the vital role the sector plays in employment, skills development, and regional economic growth, particularly in areas with a strong manufacturing heritage such as Leicester and North London.
Both MPs were described as extremely supportive of the garment and textiles manufacturing sector, acknowledging the challenges and opportunities facing the industry in the current economic climate.
Following the meeting, the Apparel & Textile Manufacturers Federation expressed its sincere appreciation for the time and engagement shown by the MPs.
The Federation confirmed that it will now update its members on the outcomes of the meeting and continue discussions aimed at strengthening the future of the UK apparel and textile manufacturing industry.
The ongoing dialogue between policymakers and industry leaders reflects a shared commitment to supporting a sector that remains a key part of the UK’s manufacturing landscape.
